Employment Reform Must Work For Business, says the BCC
As one of 52 accredited chambers within the British Chambers of Commerce (BCC) network, Suffolk Chamber of Commerce plays a key role in representing and supporting businesses across the region. Working closely with the BCC, Suffolk Chamber ensures that local businesses’ voices are heard at the highest levels of government, both in the UK and internationally. The BCC’s influence in policy-making offers businesses, large and small, a unified voice on economic and legislative matters.
BCC Responds to Landmark Employment Reforms
Following the government’s recent unveiling of the most significant reforms to employment rights in decades, the BCC has issued a response. Jane Gratton, Deputy Director of Public Policy at the BCC, welcomed the potential for the changes to boost employment and drive economic growth but warned of the challenges businesses may face if the reforms are not handled carefully.
Gratton emphasised the importance of engaging businesses throughout the process:
“This is the biggest shake-up of employment law in decades. These are huge changes, and businesses must be engaged and supported on them every step of the way.”
While the reforms set out a framework for the future of employment law, much of the detail is still under discussion, and significant changes to business practices are unlikely before 2026.
As the new legislation develops, the BCC remains committed to working alongside the government and unions to ensure the reforms achieve a balanced approach, promoting recruitment while safeguarding employee protections.
