A landmark devolution deal, which puts money and power over building, regeneration and skills into the hands of leaders in Suffolk will be signed today by Levelling Up Secretary Michael Gove.

A scheme created six years ago to break down barriers faced by businesses looking to grow has already helped almost 400 companies to scale up and fulfil their ambitions.

Suffolk Chamber of Commerce welcomes the announcement of the British Government’s financial contribution to the Sizewell C project. 

Back at the dawn of the dot-com era, Martha Lane Fox founded lastminute.com with her business partner Brent Hoberman. After growing the business to become one of the leading e-commerce brands in Europe with a valuation of $1 billion, they took the business public in 2000. This experience set the tone for the rest of Martha’s working life, which has ‘always encompassed something digital or something entrepreneurial’.

“The Autumn Statement contains some specific good news for Suffolk in the longer-term, but also some short-term systemic concerns for the business community.

The economy is in a state of real stress at the moment  - and it is businesses that are on the front line of the key issues of escalating costs and prices, excessive and unfair taxation systems, labour shortages and supply chain uncertainties.

Two of Suffolk’s local businesses and Suffolk Chamber members, Vertas Group Ltd and Cory Brothers Shipping Agency Ltd, have been given regional awards in this year’s British Chamber Business Awards.

Suffolk Chamber re-launched its Suffolk Chamber International Trade Group (SCITG) on the 1st November 2022.

The Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) earlier this month (1 October) launched the Energy Bill Relief Scheme, which will provide support with energy costs relief to eligible businesses, voluntary sector and public sector organisations in Great Britain until the end of March 2023.

John Dugmore, chief executive of Suffolk Chamber of Commerce, has been appointed to the Board of the British Chambers of Commerce (BCC) at the organisation’s recent AGM.
